William Arthur Blincow, 97, of Oxford, Nebraska, died on Wednesday, June 14th, 2017, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Bill was born September 25th, 1919, on the family farm north of Oxford, in Furnas County, the third of five children born to Roy Malvin and Grace Mae (Huffman) Blincow.BlincowBilPIC
Bill received his education from Oxford Public Schools, graduating from Oxford High School with the class of 1938.
Following his education and Pearl Harbor, Bill was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country during World War II, until his honorable discharge on October 11th, 1945. Bill was awarded six overseas bars, one service stripe, Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon for his efforts.
On December 13th, 1941, he was united in marriage to Alda Ellouise Pearson and the couple were blessed with five children: Gloria, Shirley, Arthur, James and Stanley. The family made their home on a farm north of Oxford, where Bill devoted his time to raising turkeys on his turkey farm. In 1974, after 26 years of farming, the couple moved into Oxford, at which time Bill worked in construction as a carpenter until his retirement.
Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and even had a deer featured in the “Pope and Young Records” book. He was an avid golfer even at the age of 97 and always had an impressive garden. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Oxford, where he served in many capacities including: past Board President, church trustee for many years, and was a 40-year member of the choir, and served his community in many aspects as well. In 2008, the couple were honored as Co-Grand Marshal’s for Turkey Days.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Arthur Alan Blincow at the age of six; daughter, Shirley Blue and her husband, Curt; brothers: Alvin Blincow and his wife, Alberta and Mark Blincow; sisters: Junita Boe and her husband, Fred and Nola Silvernale and her first husband, Earl Dusenberry; and sisters-in-law: Charlotte Jones and her husband, Jinx, Doris Fish and her husband, Paul and Hazel Peterson and her husband, Marvin.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 75 years, Alda Blincow of Oxford; his children: Gloria Borgman and her husband, Ronald of Spearfish, South Dakota, James Blincow and his wife, Helen of Bertrand, Nebraska and Stanley Blincow and his wife, Susan of Hastings, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren: sister-in-law: Janice Blincow of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Fred Silvernale of Powell, Wyoming, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services for William A. “Bill” Blincow were held on Tuesday, June 20th, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Oxford, Nebraska, with Reverend Eldon E. Fablinger officiating.
Interment was held in the Oxford Cemetery following the services with military honors provided by the Oxford American Legion Post #219 in conjunction with United States Army Funeral Honors Team.
A memorial has been established in Bill’s honor and kindly suggested to the United Methodist Church of Oxford; the Oxford Fire Department; or the Golden Generation Senior Center in Oxford.
